Like a herd of cows, flock of birds, we humans are often categorised as the human race.
Race, mostly used to define a running competition, perfectly defines us.
We are in this massive race where each of us want to be ahead of the other.
The politicians are running in a race of power and the controvertial ‘kursi’
The businessmen are running in a race of name & fame
The finance people in the race of money
The journalists in the race of TRPs
The IT professionals in the race of making the most onsite trips
The rich to be on page 3
The common man to survive
And on and on and on… we are just running like headless chickens in every direction
Back in my childhood, I only saw the elders competing in this race and that gave me the jitters... but the kids of today have joined the race too
As a toddler kids needs to compete in the race of being in the best play school, even when grandparents want to spend more time with them
Then in the race to join the best school
And then for better marks….not only in their own class, but be rank 1 @ school…. @state….. @country level
The consider is so appauling that the weight of a school bag is much much more than the kids themselves.
They had a schedule buisier than most professionals coz they manage school with tutions and then with extra curicular activities and then with social commitments and then with latest game gadget out in the market.
Just as I was starting to worry about the weight of bags and the madning lifestyle of kids, the world was hit by a tech boom to introduce the virtual world of knowledge where even the universe isnt the limit.
And now the kids not only need to know the bookish knowledge, they need to be well aware about the gadgets around.
I feel lucky to be from the generation where gadgets were just picking up speed and the old conventional ways were slowing diminishing. So I got to experirnce the serenity that this life had to offer back then. Honestly I fondly remember those days and it puts that big smile of contentment on my face.
Back then, I too was a part of the a race, but a more comfort oriented race where we wernt in a cut throat competition, when things didn’t always fall into the ‘Do or Die’ category.
As the race gets tougher the human race gets sturdier and we continue to race on and on and on and……..
